About

Lara Palmer is a Freelance Advertising Art Director, Writer and Creative Director.

In 2018 I celebrated 30 years in Advertising! Along the way I’ve been fortunate to work with the top talent in the industry, in a number of major markets on a diverse range of global and regional brands. My full time and freelance work in Canada and the U.S. covers every product category and every award show giving me a wealth of experience in finding creative solutions, bringing ideas to life and exceeding result expectations for my clients.

In my 3 decades in the business I’ve never stopped coming up with ideas and creating the work. My goal has always been and still is to create world-class work. I went freelance in 2009 and take contracts as an Art Director, Writer and Creative Director. I can approach a creative problem from all sides and have acquired a full toolbox to help me find compelling, insightful and original creative solutions. I have the experience to know what an idea or execution needs to be successful. Does it need more thinking? Visual or copy refinement? Or scrapped all together!

I’m a Freelance Advertising Creative. I work as an Art Director, Writer and Creative Director.

My work has exceeded business goals and won hundreds of Canadian and International creative and effectiveness awards including One Show pencils, CA’s, Andy’s, Cassies and Cannes Gold Lions. I was honoured by Strategy Magazine as the 7th most awarded Art Director in Canada for the decade between 2000 and 2010.

I’m often asked to judge and chair award shows most recently judging Cannes Lions in 2013. I’ve taught advertising and design at OCAD and been a guest teacher at the Miami Ad School and the Young Guns in Australia.

An avid outdoor enthusiast, when I’m not working I can usually be found standing sideways on a board in the ocean surf, on a powder packed mountain side or on some freshly paved asphalt.

I now live in Tofino on Vancouver Island B.C. with my husband, writer, producer, stand-up comic, Tim Rykert. My home office is across the street from the ocean close enough to pop out for regular surf checks but I never go until my work is done, ask Tim.

Reach out if you need help. I love bringing great ideas to life that exceed expectations on projects of all sizes.
